Drupal on the Bayou

on December 9, 2011 - 4:51pm

Drupal on the Bayou has come to a close, and it was a fun couple of days. This was the smallest Drupal event I've been to, but every dynamic has it's advantages. Maybe it's my own personal perception, but I felt as if the small size made everyone much more approachable. Everything was a bit more relaxed and informal, but that made it feel that much more cozy. I met some great folks from the New Orleans area and elsewhere, and learned quite a lot. Here's my recap...

An Inside Look at the Omega Theme

on December 6, 2011 - 10:26pm

When people say "mobile first" in referring to web design & theming, it's not just a mentality or something people say in a "the way it ought to be" sort of sense. They literally mean, designing the mobile theme first, then adding on CSS for tablets, desktop, and wide desktop themes. In a technical sense, it means that the global.css that contains the basic design elements of the site is loaded no matter what device you are using to view the website. Then, CSS3 Media queries determine what the size of the window is and additional stylesheets will be tacked on; either "narrow", "normal" , or "wide" - depending on the width of the device. The Omega Theme comes with built in CSS media queries that determine when to load specific stylesheets.

Drupal, One of the Many Things I'm Thankful for

on November 23, 2011 - 3:51pm

It's the time of year to sit back and reflect on the many things there are to be thankful about. God, family, friends, good food to eat, and Drupal. Yep, this year a CMS is on my list!

Not only is Drupal a fabulous content management system to build websites on, it's also changed the course of my life. It's provided me a way to do something I love, work remotely at home (and move to Florida!), and meet a lot of fantastic, giving, and intelligent people along the way. And I'm not ashamed to say that it also provides some excellent job security. And in times like these, that's nothing to shake a turkey leg at.
